Corrosion resistance is generally lower than the common austenitic Stainless Steel 317 Blind Flanges, and their useful operating temperature range is limited by their loss of ductility at sub – zero temperatures and loss of strength by over-tempering at elevated temperatures. The great benefit of Stainless Steel 317 Lap Joint Flanges (and of other precipitation hardening grades of stainless steel) is that they are generally supplied in the solution treated condition, in which they are just machinable, and then can be age hardened to achieve quite high strengths.
